Dense fog | Hyderabad, Jan 5: Dense fog during early mornings has disrupted normal life across the Telugu states for the past week.
Although daytime cold has reduced, thick fog before sunrise continues to cause serious problems. As a result, daily travel has become risky, especially on major highways.
Visibility has dropped sharply on national highways. In several places, it has fallen below 10 meters.
Therefore, drivers struggle to spot vehicles coming from the opposite side. The fog cover remains heavy even after 9 am in some stretches.
Shamshabad to Bengaluru highway, Vijayawada to Hyderabad highway, and areas around the Outer Ring Road are among the worst affected.
Because of poor visibility, several vehicles have collided. Recently, four lorries crashed into each other on the Hyderabad to Bengaluru highway.
This accident led to traffic jams stretching several kilometres. Meanwhile, fog has also disrupted flight operations, causing inconvenience to air passengers.
Dense fog | Police issue safety advisory as fog reduces highway visibility
In view of the dangerous conditions, police and transport department officials have issued clear advisories.
They have urged motorists to avoid highway travel between 4 am and 9 am as much as possible. However, if travel is unavoidable, officials have asked drivers to proceed slowly and switch on fog lights.
Authorities have also advised drivers to keep at least 50 meters distance from the vehicle ahead. This measure is crucial to avoid sudden collisions.
Meanwhile, police said fog conditions may continue for a few more days. Therefore, they stressed the need for extra caution.
Weather officials have echoed similar concerns. They warned that morning fog could persist due to prevailing conditions.
As a result, commuters, transport operators, and travellers have been advised to plan journeys carefully. The situation highlights the need for patience and alert driving during early hours until visibility improves.
