Hyderabad, August 19: Hyderabad District Congress Committee president Syed Khalid Saifullah has urged police to prevent fraud linked to the Special Intensive Revision process.
He asked Telangana Police, especially Hyderabad City Police, to watch for fraudsters targeting voters after draft electoral rolls were published on August 17.
Saifullah warned that callers could use specific voter details to appear genuine. They may claim that an elector’s name was deleted, retained or changed.
He said fraudsters could then seek one time passwords, bank details, card information or passwords. Such attempts could result in financial fraud or data theft.
Saifullah also raised concerns about personal information collected during the SIR exercise. He said political activists had helped some voters complete enumeration forms.
According to him, some activists collected Aadhaar details and other personal information during these activities. He said authorities should examine whether such information could be copied, shared or misused.

Saifullah said voters whose names face problems in the draft rolls could become vulnerable targets. Fraudsters could use accurate voter information to convince people that their calls are official.
Therefore, he urged police to take preventive steps rather than act only after financial losses occur.
He advised voters not to share OTPs, banking details, card information or passwords with callers claiming to represent SIR officials.
He also asked citizens to report suspicious calls and messages to the police. Voters should use official Election Commission channels for electoral roll queries.
Meanwhile, Saifullah urged cybercrime officials to investigate how fraudsters obtain specific voter information. He said investigators should trace the source of any personal data used during suspected fraud.
He also called for closer monitoring of complaints mentioning SIR, voter verification, deleted names and electoral roll corrections.
Saifullah said political parties and activists who collected voter information also have a responsibility to protect it. He urged them not to retain or share personal data for unauthorised purposes.
He further warned voters against callers who create urgency. Such callers may falsely claim that an OTP is needed to restore or correct a voter registration.
Saifullah said police awareness campaigns could help voters identify such scams. He also urged Hyderabad authorities to monitor complaints for signs of organised misuse of voter information.
