Hyderabad, August 20: The BJP has sharply criticised the Congress over its decision to sing only the first two stanzas of Vande Mataram at party events.
The Congress has said it will follow its 1937 decision on the rendition of the song.
The BJP has questioned the Congress’s commitment to patriotism and national unity over the decision.
BJP Questions Congress Stand On Vande Mataram
BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said the Congress decision raises questions about its loyalty to the country.
He questioned why the Congress, which claims a role in India’s freedom movement, would not fully respect Vande Mataram.
Trivedi also accused the Congress of giving greater importance to its party decision than to the Constitution and Parliament.
Meanwhile, several BJP leaders have criticised the Congress over its position.
They also compared the decision with objections raised by the Muslim League against the full rendition of Vande Mataram in 1931.
However, the Congress has maintained that it will follow its historical 1937 decision on the song.
The issue has intensified the political dispute between the two parties over Vande Mataram.
