AIMIM Achieves Record Wins in Maharashtra Civic Polls

Hyderabad, Jan 17 (Maxim News): The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) secured its best performance ever in the 2026 Maharashtra civic body elections. The party contested on its kite symbol and won 125 seats across key municipal corporations. This result expands AIMIM’s footprint in urban Maharashtra. It also shifts traditional political equations in the state.

AIMIM follows its recent Bihar assembly victory. Party supremo Asaduddin Owaisi led the campaign. His brother Akbaruddin Owaisi mobilized cadres on the ground. They addressed dozens of rallies from January 3 to 13. Locations included Aurangabad, Malegaon, Nanded, Nagpur, and Mumbai. Asaduddin Owaisi used helicopters for quick travel. The effort consolidated Muslim votes behind the kite symbol.

AIMIM snatched seats from Congress, Samajwadi Party, and NCP in minority-dominated wards. This shows a clear shift in voting patterns. Past results differed sharply. In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, AIMIM lost its lone seat in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Syed Imtiaz Jaleel fell short. Later, in Maharashtra assembly elections, AIMIM contested 16 seats. It won only Malegaon Central by 162 votes. Mufti Mohammad Ismail Abdul Khalique took the seat.

Owaisi focused on local issues. He highlighted neglected infrastructure, water shortages, and sanitation deficits. His “Paidal Daura” door-to-door outreach connected promises to neighborhoods. He urged workers to move past prior losses. Owaisi emphasized women’s role, citing Islamic quotes and Bihar wins. The party unified disgruntled leaders. He criticized rivals like Abu Azmi and Imran Masood for empty promises.

Akbaruddin Owaisi campaigned in Mumbai and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. He used fiery rhetoric against local leaders. Observers note AIMIM’s rise from fringe to serious urban force. Gains dent Congress and NCP strongholds. This could impact future assembly and Lok Sabha contests. Maharashtra civic polls thus mark a key milestone for AIMIM. (Maxim News)
