Hyderabad Police Warn Against Social Media Lucky Draw Scams
Hyderabad, Jan. 17 (Maxim News): Hyderabad Police Commissioner Sajjanar on Friday issued a strong warning against social media lucky draw scams that target innocent people through misleading online promotions. He urged citizens to stay alert, especially against influencers who create flashy reels but cheat people in reality.
The Commissioner said police noticed several influencers promoting social media lucky draw scams by promising costly rewards. These include cars, bikes, plots, and electronic gadgets. However, in many cases, the claims proved false. Therefore, he cautioned people not to trust such online offers blindly.
According to Sajjanar, many influencers shifted to lucky draw promotions after betting app promotions were shut down. As a result, they started using new methods to collect money from the public. He said these scams exploit people’s hopes and financial stress. Hence, police are closely monitoring such online activities.
Sajjanar made it clear that strict legal action will follow against those involved in social media lucky draw scams. He said police will register cases under the Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes Banning Act 1978. Moreover, he stressed that no one will get special treatment, even if the accused is a celebrity or social media star.
The Commissioner also warned influencers against misusing their popularity. He said using fame to cheat people will invite tough punishment.
Meanwhile, he asked the public to verify any online offer before sending money. He also advised people to report suspicious lucky draw schemes to the police immediately.
In addition, Sajjanar shared trending lucky draw reels on his official X account to raise awareness. He said such public alerts help prevent financial losses. Police officials believe early reporting can stop these scams faster.
Therefore, Hyderabad Police urged citizens to stay cautious and informed. (Maxim News)
