DIDI Vs BJP: Rs. 100 Crore Defamation Suit Against Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata/Hyderabad, Jan 17 (Maxim News): Is CM Mamata Banerjee’s popularity in West Bengal decreasing? Yes, they say. Recently, the BJP is slowly trying to make inroads there too. It is not leaving any opportunity for that. Recently, BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari has filed a defamation case of Rs. 100 crore against CM Mamata Banerjee. Suvendu alleged that Didi’s comments linking him to the coal scam are baseless…and are tarnishing his reputation. He filed this petition in the Alipore court in Kolkata on Friday.

The real controversy started with Mamata Banerjee’s public speeches on January 8 and 9. Didi made sensational remarks that funds related to the coal scam were reaching Home Minister Amit Shah through Suvendu Adhikari… and that she had evidence to that effect. The BJP immediately denied these. Without further ado… they immediately sent notices to Mamata through her lawyer. They demanded that she prove the allegations within 72 hours or else issue an unconditional apology. However, CM Mamata Banerjee did not give any response to this.

With this, Suvendu started a legal battle. He said that he would keep his word and take him to court for the baseless allegations made against him. He was furious that he was misleading the people by speaking without evidence while being in the position of Chief Minister. Moreover, if the court rules in his favor in this case and he gets the money, he said that he would donate the entire amount of Rs 100 crore to charity. He alleged that such personal attacks were being launched against him to divert people’s attention from the corruption allegations against the TMC government. (Maxim News)
