Hyderabad, Sept. 24: Heavy rains have affected several parts of Telangana, prompting authorities to close schools in three districts.
The district administrations declared a holiday for schools in Hanumakonda, Warangal and Mahabubabad. Collectors issued the orders after forecasts warned of continued heavy rainfall and possible flooding.
The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for several Telangana districts, including Hanumakonda, Mahabubabad and Warangal. The warning covers very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in isolated areas.
The IMD has also warned of thunderstorms and squally winds in several districts. Winds could reach speeds of 50 to 60 kmph in some areas during the warning period.
Authorities in the erstwhile Warangal region have remained alert as rain increased the risk of overflowing streams and canals. The administrations took precautionary steps to avoid disruptions and protect residents in vulnerable areas.
