- Unanimous election makes Nitin Nabin youngest BJP president
- Support from senior BJP leaders seals Nitin Nabin BJP president post
Nitin Nabin BJP President election marked a major moment for the Bharatiya Janata Party, as Bihar leader Nitin Nabin was unanimously elected as the new national president of the BJP. He became the youngest person to hold the post at the age of 45. The party announced his elevation on January 20 at its central office in Delhi in the presence of senior leaders and national council members.
Nitin Nabin is the 12th national president of the BJP. His election was unanimous because he was the only candidate in the fray. A total of 37 sets of nomination papers were filed in his support. State BJP presidents and senior leaders led this process. The party’s organisational election returning officer, MP Dr. K. Laxman, received the nominations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally announced the name of the new BJP president. He also garlanded Nitin Nabin and conveyed his best wishes. Meanwhile, several senior leaders supported his nomination. These included current BJP president JP Nadda and Union ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Nirmala Sitharaman, Piyush Goyal, Hardeep Singh Puri, and Kiren Rijiju.
Nitin Nabin was born in 1980, the same year the BJP was founded. This made his elevation historically significant. For the first time in the party’s 45-year history, a leader younger than the party itself became its national president. Until now, he had served as the BJP’s working president, and his election was described as a formality due to broad internal support.
He has a long political career in Bihar. Nitin Nabin was a five-time MLA and won from the Bankipur constituency four times consecutively. He also held several portfolios in the Bihar cabinet during his tenure. Earlier, he served as the national general secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. After completing his intermediate studies, he also worked as BJP in-charge for some states.
Born in Ranchi in the then united Bihar, Nitin Nabin has an RSS background. Another notable aspect of his rise is that he is the first leader from Bihar to become the national president of the BJP. Therefore, his elevation carries both organisational and regional importance for the party.
