With the aim of teaching skills to the youth and providing employment opportunities, the central government has launched the PM Internship Scheme as a pilot project in 2024-25. Through this scheme, apart from providing free training for a year, it is also providing a stipend of Rs. 60,000 to each candidate. Through this, the aim of this scheme is to make one crore people skilled and improve their employment opportunities. The center plans to expand it further. In this context, it is understood that key changes will be made to the PM Internship Scheme in the annual budget 2026-27.

According to official sources in the central government, the center intends to increase the stipend, which is currently Rs. 5000 per month under the PM Internship Scheme, to Rs. 11,800. It is understood that an announcement will be made in the budget to ensure that this increase will be effective from March 2026. The center believes that the main reason for not getting the expected level of support from the youth is the low stipend and wants to increase it. The PMIS scheme, which started in October 2024, has completed two phases of training. However, it has been observed that there is not much response from the youth and even those who join are stopping midway. It has been learned from official sources that the center has decided to increase the stipend to attract a large number of youth.

Also, currently, 549 companies are training youth under the PM Internship Scheme. However, there is a proposal to increase the number of these companies to 6000. In this, priority will be given to the top 500 companies that have spent the most on average corporate social responsibility in the last three years. In addition to them, 49 companies have been selected from the tourism, hospitality and health sectors. Now, it seems that this number will be increased to six thousand for the third phase. It seems that all the companies registered under the MCA for CSR activities will be brought under this scheme. Of these, about 2000 companies are listed on NSE and BSE. (Maxim News)
