Hyderabad: Chaitanyapuri Police arrested two interstate chain snatchers in Delhi after a focused operation linked to multiple gold chain snatching cases in the LB Nagar zone. The arrests followed a swift investigation that relied on technical surveillance and field intelligence. Police said the action brought a breakthrough in cases reported across several police station limits.
The arrested suspects are Akshay Kumar Sharma, aged 29, and Rohit, aged 26. Both work as food delivery boys and are residents of the Delhi NCR region. Police said the duo carried out several chain snatching incidents on January 17. They targeted women in areas falling under Hayathnagar, Nagole, and Chaitanyapuri police station limits. The cases caused concern among residents due to the repeated nature of the offences.
Meanwhile, investigators said the suspects used a motorcycle during the crimes. After committing the offences, they abandoned the motorcycle near Sangeeth Theatre crossroads in Secunderabad. They then fled to Delhi to avoid detection. However, police teams continued tracking their movements using multiple methods.
Later, special police teams analysed CCTV footage, call data records, and tower dump analysis. This coordinated effort helped police trace the suspects’ location. The teams then moved to Delhi and arrested both accused on Monday. Police said the operation showed the value of technical tools combined with ground intelligence.
Also, police recovered three stolen gold chains weighing a total of 55.2 grams from the suspects. They also seized two mobile phones. The recovered property linked the accused directly to the chain snatching cases registered in the LB Nagar zone.
Officials said the two men are habitual offenders with a long criminal history involving property crimes in Delhi and Nagpur. They were earlier arrested by Nagpur Police in July 2025. After their release from jail, they resumed criminal activities in Hyderabad. Police said they committed at least seven chain snatchings across multiple police station limits.
Therefore, police urged citizens to remain vigilant, especially in crowded and isolated areas. They advised people to report any suspicious activity immediately to the police or Dial 100. Police said public alertness remains vital in preventing such crimes.
