- Visit Urdu University programme targets Telangana students
- MANUU steps to increase local students and women enrolment
Hyderabad: Maulana Azad National Urdu University is taking possible steps to increase the proportion of local students from Telangana, Vice Chancellor Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan said on Tuesday. He stated that although MANUU is a national university, the number of local students remains nominal. Therefore, the present administration has focused on outreach and awareness to address this gap.
Prof. Ainul Hasan expressed these views during the awareness programme titled Visit Urdu University. The event was organised as part of the 24th phase of the programme at the MANUU campus. Students from MS Education Academy, Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Womens University, and Government High School Tegha, Yakutpura took part in the visit. More than 350 students participated in the programme and interacted with university officials.
Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor shared details about changes at MANUU since he assumed charge in 2021. He said that when he took over, women students made up only 27 percent of the total enrolment. However, the university introduced several measures to improve participation. As a result, the proportion of women students has now increased to 47 percent. He linked this growth to focused policies and student friendly initiatives.
Prof. Ainul Hasan also pointed out that many people in Hyderabad lack information about Urdu University. Therefore, the Visit Urdu University programme was launched in August 2025. Since then, around 2,800 students from various schools and colleges have received information about the educational opportunities available at MANUU. He noted that many students spend lakhs of rupees on courses elsewhere, even though the same courses are offered at MANUU for a very meagre fee. He added that students are also being provided jobs through campus placements.
Later, several academic and administrative leaders spoke at the programme. Prof. Siddiqui Mohd Mahmood, Dean Students Welfare, and Prof. Syed Najmul Hasan, Coordinator Alumni Affairs, addressed the gathering. Mr. Moazzam Hussain, Director of MS School, Dr. Ateeq Siddiqui from MS Education Academy, Dr. Ehtesham ul Hassan Mujahid from the Women’s University, and Mr. Zahid Hussain, Principal of Government High School Tegha, also spoke.

Dr. Mohd Mustafa Ali Sarwari explained the Visit Urdu University initiative and said its aim is to increase awareness and ensure maximum admissions.
