Ajit Pawar plane crash | Mumbai / Hyderabad, Jan. 28: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and five others died on Wednesday after a chartered aircraft crashed while landing near Baramati in Pune district, officials confirmed.

The Ajit Pawar plane crash involved a Learjet 45 aircraft with registration VT SSK, operated by VSR. Officials said the jet was attempting to land in the Baramati area when the accident occurred. Ajit Pawar was among five passengers on board, along with two crew members.

Authorities said the passengers included Pawar, his personal security officer, and an attendant. The crew comprised the pilot in command and the first officer.

All six occupants died in the Ajit Pawar plane crash, officials added.

Ajit Pawar plane crash triggers state mourning

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described the incident as a major loss to the state. Fadnavis said the government had declared three days of state mourning.

Fadnavis also noted that Ajit Pawar was a long time colleague and friend, and called his death a personal loss.

Meanwhile, condolences poured in from across the country following the crash. President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the tragedy. Union ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh also paid tributes.

Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, conveyed condolences. Chief ministers from several states, including Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, also expressed sorrow.

Officials said further details would emerge after completion of the investigation into the crash.
