Recently, the Supreme Court, while dismissing a petition challenging the appointment of DGP by the Telangana High Court, has directed the Telangana government along with the UPSC to complete the full DGP appointment process within four weeks. It has clearly directed that this process be carried out in coordination with the UPSC and the Telangana government. The Supreme Court has modified the High Court’s verdict in this regard. It has also directed the state government including the UPSC to consider the proposals sent by the state government last April.

The Supreme Court’s verdict seems likely to end the uncertainty surrounding the appointment of a regular DGP in Telangana. With the appointment to be completed within four weeks, there is a possibility of key changes taking place in the state’s police administration. (Maxim News)
