BJP Telangana Municipal Results: BJP Wins One Mayor, Two Chairperson Posts in Telangana

BJP Telangana Municipal Results | Hyderabad, Feb. 17: The Bharatiya Janata Party secured one mayor seat and two chairperson posts in the recent Telangana municipal elections.

Notably, the party won these positions with the support of independents.

In the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation, BJP won the highest number of seats. However, it failed to cross the magic figure.

Meanwhile, the ruling Indian National Congress also targeted the mayor post.

At this stage, BJP senior leaders stepped in. They held talks with Bharat Rashtra Samithi leaders. After discussions, BRS decided to stay away from the mayor election. As a result, BJP captured the Karimnagar mayor seat. Kolagani Srinivas was elected as Mayor, while Sunil Rao became Deputy Mayor.

BJP Telangana Municipal Results | Chairperson Posts in Narayanpet and Bhainsa

In municipalities, BJP managed to win chairperson posts only in Narayanpet and Bhainsa.

In Narayanpet, BJP won 11 councillor seats along with one independent. However, the party still needed one more vote to secure the chairperson post.

Therefore, it relied on ex officio member votes. With that support, BJP secured the chairperson position. Konda Swetha Satya Yadav was elected as Chairperson, and Manjula became Vice Chairperson.

In Bhainsa, AIMIM won 12 out of 42 wards. Initially, many believed All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen would take control of the municipality.

However, with BJP support, independents captured the chairperson post. Independent candidate Thoomu Dattatri became Chairperson, while BB Khateja Siddiqui was elected as Vice Chairperson.

Meanwhile, in the Nizamabad Municipal Corporation, BJP secured the highest number of seats. However, party seniors expressed anger as MP Arvind did not make serious efforts to secure the mayor post.

Missed Opportunity in Adilabad

In Adilabad Municipality, BJP won 21 out of 49 wards. Congress secured 11 seats, BRS won 6, and others captured 11. The magic figure stood at 25. Many expected BJP to win the chairperson post with independent support.

However, Congress rebel candidate Bandari Anusha won the chairperson post with support from Congress, BRS and independents. AIMIM candidate Mohammed Rohit became Vice Chairperson. BJP candidate Jogu Shailaja received only 23 votes.

Across the state, BJP leaders had expected at least 20 chairperson posts and two mayor seats. However, the party failed to secure even a single chairperson post on its own strength.

As a result, second line leaders have reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with party MLAs, MPs and senior leadership.
