The Telangana government is implementing the ‘Cheyutha’ scheme to provide financial assistance to the elderly, single women, widows, persons with disabilities, beedi workers, dialysis patients, and AIDS patients. Meanwhile, reports indicate that the Revanth government is considering a gradual increase in pension amounts instead of implementing the full promise at once. Therefore, the government is assessing the state’s financial condition before taking a final call.

Cheyutha Pension Hike May Increase Monthly Support by ₹500

According to available information, the government is discussing a proposal to raise existing pensions by ₹500. If implemented, elderly persons, widows, and other eligible groups who currently receive ₹2,016 may see their pension increase to ₹2,516. Similarly, persons with disabilities who now receive ₹4,016 could see their pension rise to ₹4,516.

However, officials view the pension hike as a bold decision. The move could place significant pressure on the state treasury. At present, the government spends around ₹950 crore every month on pension distribution. Meanwhile, financial department estimates suggest that even a ₹500 increase under the Cheyutha scheme would add nearly ₹2,500 crore annually to the state’s expenditure.

Financial Impact and Election Promise Under Focus

The government had given a major promise during elections. Now, it appears to be planning to fulfil that commitment in stages. Later, if pensions are raised from ₹4,000 to ₹6,000 as indicated, the state will need to significantly increase welfare allocations in the budget.

However, rising prices of essential goods continue to affect poor families. Therefore, even a ₹500 pension hike could provide some relief. At the same time, questions remain about when the government will fully implement its complete promise.

As discussions continue, the Cheyutha Pension Hike remains under review. The final decision will depend on the state’s financial capacity and welfare priorities.
