Hyderabad: Chilkur Balaji Temple chief priest Dr Soundararajan passed away on Friday. He was the chief priest and chairman of the temple management committee of the Chilkur Balaji Temple. The temple is located in Chilukuru village under Moinabad Municipality in Rangareddy district.

Dr Soundararajan had earlier retired as the Registrar of Osmania University. However, after retirement, he chose to stay at the temple. He then worked actively for the development of the Chilkur Balaji Temple. Over time, his efforts brought special recognition to the temple.

He played a key role in ensuring that the temple was named as the God of Visas. As a result, the Chilkur Balaji Temple gained a distinct identity among devotees. Meanwhile, his leadership as chief priest and chairman of the temple management committee shaped its growth and public image.

Following the passing of Dr Soundararajan, the temple authorities are likely to close the temple for two days. It is learnt that the closure may be observed today and tomorrow as a mark of respect. However, an official announcement on the closure is awaited.
