Mumbai ATS Officials Cheat Hyderabad Senior Citizen

Hyderabad: Mumbai ATS officials cheat Hyderabad senior citizen in a shocking cyber fraud case reported in the city. Cyber fraudsters posing as officials of the Mumbai Anti Terrorism Squad duped a 76 year old retired bank manager of Rs 1.44 crore. They allegedly threatened him with a fake terror funding case and forced him to transfer the money.

According to available information, the victim is a retired manager of a nationalised bank and a resident of the Cyberabad area. He received a phone call from an unknown number on January 17. The caller introduced himself as an officer from the Mumbai ATS. He claimed that an FIR had been registered against the elderly man for allegedly funding terrorist activities.

Within minutes, the call was allegedly transferred to three other fraudsters. They identified themselves as ATS investigation officers. They accused the victim of being linked to international terrorist operatives. They also claimed that he misused his bank account to help open multiple accounts connected to extremist activities.

Police said the fraudsters told him that he needed to verify his bank accounts to prove his innocence. They claimed this was part of an official investigation. Therefore, fearing serious consequences, the 76 year old transferred Rs 1.44 crore in different transactions. He sent the money to various bank accounts provided by the suspects.

However, after receiving the money, the callers abruptly stopped responding. Repeated attempts to contact them failed. The victim then realised he had been cheated.

Based on his complaint, the Cyberabad Cybercrime police registered a case and started an investigation. Meanwhile, police are examining the bank accounts used in the transactions. The case highlights how fraudsters posing as Mumbai ATS officials target senior citizens by using fear and false terror charges to commit cyber fraud.
