CM Chandrababu Announces ₹20 Lakh Compensation After Vetlapalem Firecracker Factory Blast
Vetlapalem / Hyderabad, March 1: A massive explosion rocked a firecracker manufacturing unit in Vetlapalem village of Samarlakota mandal in Kakinada district. The tragic incident claimed 21 lives on the spot. Moreover, nine others remain in critical condition.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu visited the accident site. He also met the injured victims and consoled their families.
Calling the incident “deeply painful,” the Chief Minister said most of the victims belonged to poor families. Several among them were from SC and ST communities. Notably, nine women were also among the deceased.
Furthermore, he announced immediate action against officials. The government has suspended four officers, including the DSP and the RDO. In addition, he ordered a detailed inquiry into the blast.
The Chief Minister made it clear that strict criminal action will be taken against those responsible. He said authorities would even seize properties of the accused if necessary. He also warned that if negligence by officials is proven, further action will follow.
According to him, the factory management failed to follow proper safety precautions. Therefore, the government will tighten regulations governing cracker manufacturing units across the state.
Meanwhile, the government announced ₹20 lakh ex-gratia compensation for each deceased victim’s family. The injured will also receive full support. Importantly, the state will bear the education expenses of the victims’ children. In addition, homeless families will be provided houses.
Finally, the Chief Minister assured that steps will be taken to prevent such tragedies in the future. He emphasized that safety standards will be strictly enforced to avoid similar incidents. (Maxim News)
