PPP Medical Colleges Plan: AP To Run 10 In 2 Years

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government will run 10 medical colleges under the PPP model in the next two financial years. Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav made this announcement while addressing the Assembly on Wednesday.

He said the government is taking steps to operationalise these colleges under the Public Private Partnership framework. He added that the total cost would amount to Rs 8,480 crore. Therefore, the move marks a major financial commitment in the health sector.

PPP Medical Colleges Plan and Funding Details

The Minister explained that 17 medical colleges were initiated during the previous YSRCP regime. Out of these, 11 were sanctioned under the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development. Meanwhile, three colleges were approved under the Central Government, and another three under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment scheme.

“The government is taking measures to run 10 medical colleges under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode in the next two financial years,” said Yadav. He stressed that the government is focused on ensuring their proper functioning.

Allegations Over Previous Spending

However, Yadav alleged that only Rs 1,500 crore was spent on these colleges during the previous YSRCP government. He claimed that Rs 500 crore alone was spent on Pulivendula medical college. According to him, this led to the neglect of other colleges.

He further stated that the present government has spent Rs 900 crore on these colleges after coming to power. Meanwhile, he alleged that YSRCP leaders made false statements claiming they built these medical colleges.

In addition, Yadav asserted that the previous government did not even take up land acquisition for Parvathipuram Medical College. Therefore, he indicated that several projects remained incomplete when the current government assumed office.

The PPP Medical Colleges Plan now aims to address these gaps. As per the Minister’s statement, the government intends to strengthen infrastructure and ensure smooth operations over the next two financial years.
