However, one recommendation on Teachers Salaries became controversial. The commission reportedly observed that salaries of teachers, lecturers and non teaching staff were high and suggested rationalising them in the coming days.

As a result, opposition parties and teachers unions strongly criticised the recommendation. They accused the government of targeting teachers. Therefore, the issue led to sharp reactions and political debate.

However, he added that the salary aspect was being wrongly interpreted.

The opposition had questioned whether the Education Commission included experts who had basic teaching experience at school, college or university level.

They asked if even one such educationist was part of the panel. Keshav Rao strongly rejected these allegations and defended the composition of the commission.
