Notification For Assembly Elections In 4 States Soon?
Delhi/Internet/Hyderabad, Mar 10 (Maxim News): After completing the review of the election preparedness in West Bengal, the Election Commission (EC) is likely to soon issue notifications for assembly elections in 4 states and one union territory. There is a chance of announcing the schedule for assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Puducherry. The schedule is likely to be announced by this week, Election Commission sources said.
A full-fledged EC team led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar is visiting West Bengal. The team will return to Delhi after reviewing the election preparations there. The EC has already completed its review of the election process in Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala and Puducherry. It is reported that the schedule is likely to be announced after the Bengal review.
However, it is learnt that representatives of several political parties in West Bengal have requested the EC to hold the assembly elections in two phases. To this end, CEC Gyanesh Kumar, Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, Vivek Joshi and Bengal CEO Manoj Agarwal held a meeting with leaders of various parties in Kolkata on Monday. On this occasion, the respective parties appealed to the EC to take strict action to prevent anti-social activities during the elections. TMC, BJP, CPM, Congress and AAP leaders participated in the meeting. Earlier, a delegation of Bengal BJP representatives met the CEC and submitted a 16-point memorandum expressing concerns over security issues ahead of the assembly elections in the state. (Maxim News)
