CV Anand Likely To Become Telangana DGP As UPSC Clears Panel

CV Anand | Hyderabad, Mar 12 (Maxim News) : The process to appoint the third full time Director General of Police for Telangana has reached the final stage. The Union Public Service Commission has finalized a panel of three senior IPS officers. The state government must now pick one name from this list.

The shortlisted officers include 1991 batch IPS officer CV Anand. He currently serves asSpecial Chief Secretary of the Home Department. The panel also includes 1994 batch officer Vinayak Prabhakar Apte. He is serving as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau. Another contender is Soumya Mishra. She belongs to the 1994 batch and now serves as Director General of Prisons in Telangana.

Officials indicate that CV Anand holds a clear edge in the selection process. He is the senior most officer among the three candidates. Moreover, he has extensive experience across several policing roles in the state.

CV Anand has worked in multiple key positions from ASP to top command roles. Therefore, his administrative exposure strengthens his chances. In addition, he has handled law and order, intelligence, and city policing assignments.

Meanwhile, Vinayak Prabhakar Apte is currently serving in central services. Sources suggest his return to the state cadre appears unlikely at present. Similarly, Soumya Mishra remains a strong officer with administrative experience. However, seniority norms may play a key role in the final decision.

If selected, CV Anand will become the third full time DGP appointed through the UPSC process in Telangana. Earlier, Anurag Sharma and Mahender Reddy held the post through the same system. This will place Anand in a notable administrative position in the state police hierarchy.

At present, Shivdhar Reddy is serving as in charge DGP. However, he is scheduled to retire at the end of April. Therefore, the new DGP is expected to assume charge after his retirement. The state government is likely to announce the final decision soon.

The appointment comes at a crucial time. The state is focusing on policing reforms and administrative stability. Hence, the new DGP will play a key role in maintaining law enforcement priorities. (Maxim News)
