- Iran rejects US ceasefire as strikes intensify across region
- US diplomatic push fails after attacks and military escalation
Hyderabad, April 4: Iran rejects US ceasefire efforts, turning down a 48 hour proposal amid an escalating conflict in the region. The semi official Fars news agency reported the development on Friday, citing an informed source.
According to the report, the United States sent the proposal through a “friendly” country on Thursday. However, Iran did not accept the offer. Instead, the report said Iran responded through continued attacks on the battlefield rather than a written reply.
Meanwhile, Washington increased diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire. This came after an Iranian strike targeted a US “military forces depot” on Kuwait’s Bubiyan Island. Reports suggested that the US pushed for talks following rising tensions and growing challenges for its forces.
Fars reported that assessments linked the proposal to the intensifying crisis. It also cited “serious problems” for US forces due to what it described as a “miscalculation” of Iran’s military capabilities. Therefore, the rejection marked a further escalation in the situation.
Military actions and rising tensions
At the same time, Iranian military actions continued across multiple fronts. The Iranian army confirmed that its air defence systems shot down a US A 10 “Warthog” attack plane over southern waters near the Strait of Hormuz. The aircraft reportedly crashed into the Persian Gulf.
Earlier in the day, the IRGC stated that it had downed a US F 35 fighter jet in central Iranian airspace. Later, Iran’s media reported that a US Black Hawk helicopter was also hit while searching for a pilot of the downed jet.
In addition, Yadollah Rahmani, governor of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad province, urged residents in tribal and rural areas to help authorities locate “enemy pilots.” This call followed reports of pilots ejecting from aircraft during the incidents.
The conflict traces back to February 28, when Israel and the United States launched joint attacks on Tehran and other Iranian cities. These strikes reportedly killed Iran’s then Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, along with senior military commanders and civilians. Iran later responded with missile and drone strikes targeting Israel and US assets in the Middle East.
Therefore, the rejection of the ceasefire proposal signals continued escalation. The situation remains tense as both sides continue military and diplomatic actions.
