LPG Panic Bookings Delay Deliveries In Hyderabad

  • LPG panic bookings increase waiting time for cylinder delivery
  • Hyderabad LPG agencies say supply is sufficient despite backlog

Hyderabad: LPG panic bookings in Hyderabad have increased delivery waiting times for domestic gas cylinders, according to LPG distributors in the city. Agencies said the sudden surge in bookings has stretched delivery timelines from one day to nearly three days and even longer in some areas.

Senior office bearers of the Greater Hyderabad Gas Distributors Association said there is no shortage of LPG supply in the city. However, they noted that panic driven bookings by consumers have created an artificial rise in demand. As a result, agencies are facing a backlog in deliveries.

Association urges consumers to avoid unnecessary LPG bookings

Members of the Greater Hyderabad Gas Distributors Association urged residents not to book cylinders when they do not need them immediately. They stressed that the current delay is due to panic bookings rather than any disruption in supply.

D Ashok Kumar from the Greater Hyderabad Gas Distributors Association asked consumers to remain calm during the situation. He clarified that agencies are currently managing an average waiting period of around two and a half days for deliveries.

“Until a few days ago, agencies were delivering refills within a single day. However, bookings have now spiked into thousands at each agency as people are panic-booking out of fear,” Ashok Kumar said.

Meanwhile, the association reassured consumers that LPG stocks are arriving regularly. Officials said stocks are replenished daily and are adequate to meet the city’s needs.

“There is no need to panic. We are receiving enough stock for our consumers as and when the requirement arises,” he said.

The association also addressed concerns related to cylinder quotas and supply limits. According to Ashok Kumar, the government provides each household with a quota of 12 cylinders per year.

He noted that most households do not use the full quota. “The government provides a quota of 12 cylinders to each household per year, yet nearly 90 percent of households utilize only about 8 cylinders annually. The supply is more than enough for everyone if booked rationally.”

Therefore, distributors appealed to residents to avoid unnecessary bookings. They said consumers should not book a refill in advance if their current cylinder still has enough gas. According to the association, the rush of panic bookings has become a major bottleneck that is slowing down the delivery process across Hyderabad.
