Delhi/Hyderabad, April 26 (Maxim News): It seems that the BJP government at the Centre is also using the restructuring of NITI Aayog for its election campaign! West Bengal, which is going to hold the second phase of assembly elections, has been given priority in NITI Aayog. Outgoing BJP MLA from the state and renowned economist Ashok Kumar Lahiri, whose term is about to end, has been appointed as the next Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog.
Giving further strength to the Bengali perspective, renowned immunologist and educationist Govardhan Das has also been appointed as a member of NITI Aayog. The government has appointed five full-time members including economist KV Raju, AIIMS Director M Srinivas, Secretary of the Department of Sense and Technology Abhay Karandikar and former Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba. Lahiri, who has been appointed as the Vice Chairman, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday. Later, Prime Minister Modi conveyed his best wishes to Lahiri through X. Critics have commented that the Centre has given a big seat to Bengali people in NITI Aayog to check the Trinamool Congress and gain public support. (Maxim News)
