Gas refilling racket | Hyderabad, May 4: Gas refilling racket busted in Hyderabad after Gosha Mahal police arrested five accused for illegally siphoning LPG and refilling smaller cylinders.
The case surfaced after a complaint by Ashok Tiwari, a resident of Gosha Mahal. He found his Indane gas cylinder underweight at 28 kg instead of 30.4 kg. As a result, he approached the police.
Police said the main accused, delivery boy Sai Kumar, allegedly diverted gas from cylinders. He then refilled it into smaller cylinders for illegal sale. Therefore, consumers were cheated and safety was compromised.

The other accused include Vineet Kumar, Praveen Kumar, Amit Kumar, and Ganesh. They were involved in transport and distribution. Meanwhile, police have remanded all five.
During the operation, police seized multiple cylinders and equipment. These include one HP commercial cylinder, an extra commercial cylinder, six HP domestic cylinders, and one Indane domestic cylinder. In addition, 12 small cylinders and a refilling kit were recovered.
Officials said the accused ignored basic safety norms. Instead, they transferred gas without proper equipment or safeguards. As a result, the activity posed a serious risk of fire or explosion.
Police registered cases under BNS sections, along with the Essential Commodities Act and Explosives Act. Further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, officials urged consumers to check cylinder weight at delivery. They also asked people to report any tampering or illegal refilling activity, hyderabad police city police said a in media communique.
