Hyderabad, May 9: An emotional moment unfolded during the swearing in ceremony of Suvendu Adhikari in Kolkata when Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched the feet of a 98 year old BJP worker on stage.

The elderly man was identified as Makhan Lal Sarkar, a long time party worker from West Bengal who has remained associated with the BJP ideology since the Jana Sangh days.

The incident took place at Brigade Parade Ground during the oath taking ceremony attended by senior BJP leaders and supporters.

According to party leaders, Makhan Lal Sarkar worked for decades in West Bengal during periods when Congress, Left parties and the Trinamool Congress dominated state politics.

As the veteran worker attempted to greet the Prime Minister on stage, Modi reportedly walked towards him, bowed at his feet and embraced him warmly.

The gesture drew loud cheers from supporters present at the venue, with many raising slogans in support of the BJP leadership.
