Hyderabad, May 10: A. Revanth Reddy ended the confusion over Telangana Intermediate admissions for the coming academic year. He directed officials to continue Intermediate admissions as usual this year.
The Chief Minister reviewed the proposed education reforms after concerns emerged among students and parents. Since the admission schedule is already close, he asked officials to avoid any delay in the process.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that several technical issues were delaying the proposed merger of Intermediate education with the school education system. Therefore, the government decided to continue the existing system for now to protect students’ interests.
Telangana to study Intermediate merger proposal further
Earlier, the Telangana Education Commission suggested replacing the separate Intermediate system with Classes 11 and 12 under school education, similar to the Central Board of Secondary Education pattern.
The commission said the change could reduce student dropouts significantly. At present, many students who complete Class 10 in government schools do not continue their studies in separate Intermediate colleges.
Moreover, most Indian states already follow the 11 and 12 class system under a single school education structure.
Recently, reports about stopping Intermediate admissions created uncertainty among students and parents across Telangana. As a result, the Chief Minister held a high level review meeting with senior officials and education department representatives.
The meeting included MP V. Narendra Reddy, Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, Principal Secretary Sheshadri, Special Secretary Ajit Reddy, Secretary Manik Raj and Education Commissioner Yogita Rana.
During the meeting, officials discussed the technical and administrative challenges linked to the merger proposal. Consequently, the government decided to postpone the merger process temporarily.
Revanth Reddy instructed officials to conduct wide consultations with all stakeholders before taking a final decision. He also asked the Telangana Education Policy Committee to study the issue in detail and submit a report.
The Chief Minister clarified that the government would take a final decision only after discussions in the State Assembly.
