Hyderabad, May 11: A report circulating on social media on Sunday claimed that a “BJP government” led by Suvendu Adhikari in West Bengal had decided to allocate land to the Border Security Force for fencing along the Bangladesh border. However, the claim appears to be misleading because West Bengal is currently governed by the All India Trinamool Congress led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Suvendu Adhikari is presently the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly and not the Chief Minister. No official confirmation was available regarding a BJP government taking office in the state.
According to the viral report, land allocation for border fencing would be completed within 45 days. The report also claimed that the proposed administration planned to implement the Centre’s Ayushman Bharat scheme and other welfare initiatives in the state.
Border Fence Claim Creates Political Buzz
The report further stated that the cabinet had approved a proposal to extend the age limit for school recruitment by five years. It also claimed that instructions related to the upcoming Census process would be implemented immediately.
However, officials have not released any formal statement supporting these claims. Political observers noted that the report created confusion because it described Suvendu Adhikari as the Chief Minister despite no change in government in West Bengal.
The Bangladesh border remains a politically sensitive issue in eastern India. Border fencing and security infrastructure have often become subjects of debate between the Centre and the West Bengal government.
Meanwhile, neither the West Bengal government nor the BJP leadership issued an official clarification on the viral claims till Sunday evening.
