Hyderabad, May 12: The Central government has officially cancelled the NEET UG 2026 examination conducted on May 3 following serious allegations of paper leak and irregularities in the exam process. The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced that the examination will be conducted again on fresh dates to be announced soon.
The decision came after reports from Rajasthan suggested that a “guess paper” circulated before the examination matched a large number of actual questions asked in the test. Preliminary findings reportedly indicated major lapses in the examination process, prompting authorities to act in order to protect the interests of genuine students.
According to officials, the case has now been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation for a detailed probe into the alleged paper leak network. Investigators are examining the role of coaching centres, intermediaries and individuals linked to the circulation of leaked material.
Fresh NEET UG Exam Dates Soon
The National Testing Agency stated that fresh examination dates will be announced separately through its official website. Authorities also clarified that candidates will not have to submit fresh applications for the re examination process. Existing registration details will remain valid.
Officials further said students will receive updated admit cards before the new examination schedule. No additional examination fee will be collected from candidates appearing for the re test.
The controversy created nationwide concern among lakhs of medical aspirants and parents. Several student organisations demanded strict action against those responsible for compromising the integrity of one of India’s biggest entrance examinations.
Earlier, Rajasthan Police Special Operations Group reportedly found that more than 100 questions from a leaked paper matched the actual NEET UG 2026 examination. Investigators also traced the circulation of the material across multiple states through social media and messaging platforms.
The latest development has once again raised questions over the security and transparency of national level competitive examinations conducted across the country.
