Hyderabad: Cyberabad Police served a notice on Bandi Sai Bageerath directing him to appear before investigators in connection with the POCSO case registered against him.
The notice, issued by the Station House Officer of Pet Basheerabad Police Station, instructed Sai Bageerath to appear before police by 2 pm on Wednesday for inquiry and investigation.
Police stated that the case was initially registered based on a complaint lodged by the mother of the minor girl.
Officials booked the case earlier under Sections 74 and 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with Sections 11 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
Police Add Serious Charges In Bandi Sai Bageerath Case
According to police, the sections were later altered after recording the victim’s statement during the investigation.
Investigators added Section 5(l) read with Section 6 of the POCSO Act, which deals with aggravated sexual assault.
The notice warned that legal action would follow if the accused failed to comply with the direction issued by investigators.
Police said Sai Bageerath’s appearance is necessary for further inquiry into the allegations mentioned in the complaint.
The case has drawn significant political attention in Telangana as the accused is the son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar.
Meanwhile, Sai Bageerath approached the Telangana High Court seeking anticipatory bail in the case.
The court is expected to hear the matter in the coming days.
