Hyderabad, May 16: C V Anand said Telangana Police will implement effective friendly policing while taking strict action against criminals.
Speaking at an event in Hyderabad on Friday, the DGP said police must deal firmly with the five percent involved in crime. At the same time, he stressed respectful treatment for the remaining 95 percent of citizens visiting police stations.
He said the police department is preparing to tackle modern challenges. These include cybercrime, drug abuse, and rising road accidents.
The DGP said the government plans to make anti drug committees mandatory in schools, colleges, and universities. He added that discussions have already taken place at the Chief Minister level.
Educational institutions may soon require undertakings from students and parents during admissions. He warned that managements would be held responsible if drugs are found on campuses.
He also said police are monitoring pan shops near educational institutions. The department is continuing efforts to curb drug abuse among youth.
On road safety, Anand said over 7,500 people die annually in accidents across the state. He announced plans for a Traffic Management and Road Safety Bureau to improve enforcement and identify accident prone spots.
He further stated that rear seat passengers in cars should also wear seat belts. The move aims to reduce fatalities during accidents.
The DGP advised young recruits to join the police service with commitment and integrity. He warned against entering the force for money or misuse of power.
