Hyderabad, May 17: BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla on Sunday alleged that the Congress leadership selected V D Satheesan as Kerala Chief Minister under pressure from the Indian Union Muslim League.
He also launched a sharp attack on the Congress party, accusing it of minority appeasement and calling it an “Islamic National Caliphate.”
Speaking to media, Poonawalla claimed that the choice of the Kerala Chief Minister was influenced by the IUML and Jamaat groups rather than Congress legislators.
BJP Targets Congress Over Kerala Leadership
Poonawalla alleged that the Congress High Command in Delhi chose Satheesan following pressure from alliance partners in Kerala.
He further claimed that the Muslim League was attempting to increase its influence in the State after the formation of the new government.
Continuing his criticism, the BJP leader accused the Congress of being anti Hindu and linked the issue to the recent Bhojshala verdict controversy.
Referring to the Madhya Pradesh High Court verdict on Bhojshala, Poonawalla questioned why Congress leaders were opposing a court decision that favoured Hindu worship rights.
He also criticised senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh for accusing the BJP of using the Bhojshala issue to create communal tensions.
Poonawalla said questioning the court verdict amounted to undermining the judiciary. He further alleged that Congress was repeatedly insulting Hindu sentiments for political reasons.
Separately, the BJP spokesperson also targeted Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee over his remarks against central agencies and the judiciary.
Poonawalla accused the TMC leader of lacking faith in constitutional institutions and said opposition parties were attacking agencies whenever investigations moved against them.
The Congress and IUML have not officially responded to Poonawalla’s latest allegations so far.
