Hyderabad, May 17: A farmer died of a suspected cardiac arrest at an agricultural market in Warangal district on Sunday while waiting for crop procurement.
The deceased was identified as G Pedda Venkateswarlu. He reportedly collapsed at the agricultural market in Alamkanipeta village after waiting for procurement of his paddy stocks.
According to reports, Venkateswarlu had cultivated maize and paddy during the season. He had transported maize stocks to the procurement centre at Kapula Kanaparthy nearly 15 days ago.
However, he later brought his paddy produce to the Alamkanipeta agricultural market for procurement.
Farmer Collapse Sparks Anger Over Procurement Delays
While waiting for his turn at the market yard, the farmer suddenly collapsed. Local farmers and traders immediately attempted Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation to save him.
Despite their efforts, he died on the spot, reports said.
Videos showing locals performing CPR on the farmer later surfaced on social media platforms and triggered concern among the farming community.
Farmers alleged that procurement operations across several centres have been moving slowly for nearly a month, causing severe distress and uncertainty.
They claimed delays in lifting produce and long waiting periods at procurement centres were creating mental and financial pressure on farmers.
The latest incident comes amid similar reports from other districts in Telangana. Last week, farmers reportedly collapsed at procurement centres in Nalgonda, Rangareddy and Jayashankar Bhupalpally districts.
Farmer groups demanded immediate intervention from the State government to speed up procurement operations and prevent further tragedies.
Officials are yet to issue a detailed statement on the incident.
