Hyderabad, May 17: Fresh controversy has emerged over whether Bandi Sai Bhageerath, accused in the POCSO case, surrendered before police or was formally arrested by the Cyberabad police.
While police officials maintained that Bhageerath was arrested in connection with the case, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay claimed that his son voluntarily surrendered before investigators.
Adding to the confusion, Bhageerath’s lawyer Karuna Sagar stated that he personally handed over the accused to police authorities.
Lawyer Says He Handed Over Bandi Bhageerath To Police
Speaking to national media channels, advocate Karuna Sagar said he accompanied Bandi Sai Bhageerath and presented him before the Cyberabad police.
He stated that the move came after the anticipatory bail hearing in the High Court was postponed to Thursday.
According to the lawyer, the decision to cooperate with investigators was taken following instructions from Union Minister Bandi Sanjay.
Karuna Sagar clarified that Bhageerath was not forcibly picked up by police and instead appeared before authorities voluntarily.
The statement has intensified political and legal debate surrounding the case, especially after differing versions emerged from the police and the family.
Earlier, Cyberabad police stated that Bhageerath had been arrested in the POCSO case registered over allegations involving a minor girl.
Following questioning and medical examination, a Medchal court later remanded him to 14 days judicial custody.
He was subsequently shifted to Cherlapally Central Prison.
Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Team continues its probe into the case. Investigators are reportedly examining digital evidence, including WhatsApp chats and electronic communication records.
The case has generated significant political attention in Telangana due to the involvement of the family of a senior BJP leader.
