Hyderabad, May 17: Union Minister G Kishan Reddy stated that Bandi Sai Bhagirath, accused in the POCSO case, had surrendered before the police and questioned the controversy surrounding the issue.
His remarks came amid conflicting claims over whether Sai Bhagirath was formally arrested by the Cyberabad police or voluntarily surrendered before investigators.
Earlier, Bandi Sai Bhagirath’s lawyer Karuna Sagar stated that he personally handed over the accused to the police following instructions from Union Minister Bandi Sanjay.
Speaking at a media interaction, Kishan Reddy said, “Bandi Sai Bhagirath surrendered. What is the other issue?”
His statement has added further political attention to the ongoing controversy over the sequence of events in the case.
The comments are being viewed as support for the stand taken by Bandi Sanjay and the family that Sai Bhagirath voluntarily appeared before the police.
Meanwhile, Cyberabad police had earlier maintained that Bhagirath was arrested in connection with the POCSO case registered against him.
Following questioning and medical examination, a Medchal court remanded him to 14 days judicial custody and he was later shifted to Cherlapally Central Prison.
During the press meet, Kishan Reddy also clarified that state police function independently and the Central government has no role in the investigation.
He said the police system of the State government and that of the Union government are completely different.
Referring to earlier incidents in other states, Kishan Reddy alleged that state governments have full authority over law enforcement and administrative permissions.
He cited instances where flights carrying senior BJP leaders allegedly faced permission issues in opposition-ruled states.
Kishan Reddy reiterated that the Telangana police have complete powers to investigate the case and take action according to law.
The POCSO case involving Bandi Sai Bhagirath continues to remain politically sensitive in Telangana due to the involvement of the family of senior BJP leader and Union Minister Bandi Sanjay.
