Hyderabad, May 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Sweden on Sunday for high level discussions focused on trade, technology, defence and emerging sectors.
Modi landed in Gothenburg during the second leg of his four nation Europe tour. His aircraft was escorted by Swedish Air Force fighter jets before landing.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson personally received Modi at the airport, underlining the significance of the visit.
During the two day visit, the leaders are expected to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and expand economic ties between India and Sweden.
India and Sweden are likely to hold extensive discussions on green transition, artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, startups, defence cooperation, resilient supply chains, climate action and space collaboration.
According to officials, bilateral trade between the two countries reached nearly USD 7.75 billion in 2025.
The Ministry of External Affairs stated that Modi and Kristersson will also participate in the European Round Table for Industry along with Ursula von der Leyen.
The forum includes top European business leaders and is expected to focus on investment and industrial cooperation.
This marks Modi’s second visit to Sweden after attending the first India Nordic Summit in 2018.
Before arriving in Sweden, Modi visited the Netherlands, where India signed 17 agreements covering defence, critical minerals and several strategic sectors.
The Prime Minister is also scheduled to visit Norway and Italy later this week as part of his Europe tour aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic partnerships.
