Marco Rubio Arrives In India For Four Day Strategic Visit

Washington, May 23: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in India on Saturday for a four day official visit focused on strengthening strategic, economic and energy cooperation between Washington and New Delhi.

Rubio landed in Kolkata on Saturday morning and was received by senior officials. He is expected to visit several Indian cities, including Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, during the trip.

According to US Ambassador Sergio Gor, Rubio will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi later on Saturday. The visit comes amid growing cooperation between India and the United States on regional security and global economic issues.

Quad Meeting And Energy Talks In Focus

Rubio will hold bilateral talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday. He will also participate in the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting scheduled in New Delhi on May 26.

Foreign ministers from Australia and Japan are also visiting India for the Quad meeting. Discussions are expected to focus on the Indo Pacific region, defence cooperation, trade, energy security and regional stability.

Before leaving for India, Rubio said the United States wants to expand energy exports to India amid global supply concerns linked to tensions in West Asia and disruptions near the Strait of Hormuz.

Rubio described India as a “great ally” and “great partner” of the United States. He said both countries are already discussing stronger energy cooperation and broader strategic coordination.

The US Secretary of State also highlighted the importance of the Quad grouping and said the meeting in India would provide an opportunity for deeper engagement among partner nations. The visit marks Rubio’s first official trip to India since assuming office last year.
