Indo-Pacific Must Remain Driver Of Global Growth: Jaishankar

Delhi, May 26: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Tuesday said the Indo-Pacific must continue to remain a key driver of global growth and stability as Quad nations deepen cooperation across strategic sectors.

Speaking at the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi, Jaishankar said India, the United States, Japan and Australia shared a common responsibility towards maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific region.

He noted that the Quad countries, as maritime democracies and market economies, must work together to address emerging global and regional challenges.

Quad Focuses On Indo-Pacific Stability

Jaishankar said the meeting focused on issues including maritime security, supply chain resilience, critical technologies, economic resilience and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief.

He stressed the need to address connectivity choke points, manufacturing concentration and gaps in critical infrastructure across global supply chains.

According to the minister, stronger international partnerships and trusted cooperation are essential for ensuring long term stability and economic growth in the Indo-Pacific region.

He said Quad officials had made significant progress in recent months in advancing collaboration on maritime security, critical minerals and emerging technologies.

The Quad grouping includes India, United States, Japan and Australia.

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio attended the meeting in New Delhi.

The Quad countries are currently expanding cooperation in areas such as maritime security, disaster relief, infrastructure development, critical minerals and resilient supply chains across the Indo-Pacific.
