New Delhi, June 11: Four candidates fielded by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Jana Sena Party for the Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh have been elected unopposed after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations expired on Wednesday.
With only four candidates remaining in the fray for four vacant seats, their election was confirmed without the need for voting.
TDP and Jana Sena Candidates Elected Unopposed to Rajya Sabha
The candidates elected are Sana Satish, Bashyam Ramakrishna, and Chintakayala Vijay from the TDP, along with Lingamaneni Ramesh from the Jana Sena Party.
Officials said that since no additional candidates remained in the contest, the election process concluded unopposed.
Returning Officer Vanitha Rani is expected to formally issue certificates of election (Form 22) to the successful candidates.
The Election Commission of India had announced the schedule for Rajya Sabha elections in 10 states, including Andhra Pradesh, on June 1.
According to the schedule, elections were proposed for 27 Rajya Sabha seats across the country on June 18. The vacancies arose as the terms of 24 members are ending in June and July, while three additional seats became vacant before the completion of their terms.
The nomination process was conducted from June 1 to June 8, followed by scrutiny on June 9. The deadline for withdrawal of nominations ended on June 11.
The Election Commission has stated that the entire election process will be completed by June 20.
