POCSO Case Conviction: Accused Gets 20 Years Jail In Hyderabad

Hyderabad, June 13: A Special POCSO Court in Hyderabad sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment in a child sexual assault case, marking a significant conviction secured by the Hyderabad City Police and the Bharosa Centre support system.

The XII Additional Sessions Judge Court at Nampally convicted accused Nagaraju in Crime No. 71/2019 registered at Gandhi Nagar Police Station under relevant provisions of the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Along with the prison term, the court imposed a fine of Rs. 16,000 on the accused.

According to police, the case involved the repeated sexual assault of a 16 year old minor girl. Investigators found that the accused allegedly exploited the victim under the false promise of marriage. He also subjected her to criminal intimidation and reportedly used obscene photographs and videos to harass and exploit her.

The victim approached the police and lodged a complaint, following which Gandhi Nagar Police registered a case and launched an investigation. Authorities ensured that the survivor received legal, emotional and psychological support through the Bharosa Centre during the course of the investigation and trial.

Support Through Bharosa Centre Helped Secure Conviction

Police officials said the conviction resulted from coordinated efforts by investigators, prosecutors and support teams. The Bharosa Centre played a key role by providing continuous counselling, legal guidance and victim support services to the survivor and her family throughout the judicial process.

The prosecution presented evidence before the court, leading to the conviction of the accused under the applicable provisions of the IPC and the POCSO Act. The judgment reinforces the importance of victim support mechanisms in ensuring successful prosecution of crimes against children.

Officials noted that cases involving minors require sensitive handling, sustained counselling and witness support to help survivors pursue justice without fear or intimidation. The Bharosa Centre continued to assist the victim and her family until the conclusion of the trial.

Hyderabad City Police stated that the verdict sends a strong message against crimes targeting children and reflects the commitment of law enforcement agencies to ensure justice for survivors of sexual offences.
