Hyderabad, June 20: Hyderabad City Police Commissioner CV Anand Sajjanar visited the historic Bibi Ka Alam at Dabeerpura and Darulshifa on Saturday during Muharram, where he offered the ceremonial datti and took part in special prayers.
During the visit, the Commissioner also inaugurated the elephant trial walk, an important pre procession exercise linked to the annual Bibi Ka Alam procession. He later inspected security arrangements on the ground and interacted with organisers, asking them to extend full cooperation to police personnel during Muharram events.
Officials said elaborate security measures have been put in place to ensure peaceful observance of Muharram in the Old City and along the Bibi Ka Alam procession route. Around 2,000 police personnel have been deployed for the main procession, while traffic restrictions will also be enforced in key stretches to regulate movement and avoid congestion.
Elephant trial walk held to assess route and crowd conditions
Speaking to reporters, Sajjanar said the Hyderabad City Police had taken precautionary steps to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incidents during Muharram. He said the department was closely monitoring arrangements and coordinating with organisers to ensure smooth conduct of the procession.

The Commissioner said the elephant trial walk was conducted to study the animal’s movement in crowded conditions, inspect the route, and assess whether any additional security measures were required. The exercise also helps police evaluate crowd management, barricading needs and traffic diversions before the main procession.
He appealed to citizens and organisers to cooperate with the police and follow instructions issued for the procession. Sajjanar said the city has a long tradition of communal harmony and expressed confidence that the Bibi Ka Alam procession would pass off peacefully.
Bibi Ka Alam is one of Hyderabad’s most prominent Muharram processions and draws thousands of mourners every year. The procession, which has deep religious and historical significance, passes through several parts of the Old City under tight security and traffic regulation.
