Telangana Lawyers Protest At Indira Park; Demand Health Cards, Welfare Reforms

Hyderabad, June 20: The Telangana state committee of the All India Lawyers Union held a major protest at Indira Park in Hyderabad demanding health cards for all registered advocates and raising several issues related to lawyers’ welfare and social security.
More than 250 advocates, law students and representatives of bar associations from across Telangana took part in the dharna, where speakers urged the state government, the Advocates Welfare Trust and the Bar Council to take immediate steps to protect the interests of lawyers and their families.
The protest focused on extending health insurance coverage to all registered advocates, especially those enrolled after 2019. Speakers said access to health protection had become an urgent necessity for the legal community and called for stronger welfare support for advocates across the state.
The All India Lawyers Union placed a series of demands before the government and welfare authorities. These included issuing health cards to all registered advocates, regularly updating advocate rolls by removing the names of deceased lawyers and adding newly enrolled advocates, and increasing the medical insurance cover from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 10 lakh with family coverage.

The union also demanded that treatment for all diseases be brought under the insurance scheme and that the number of empanelled hospitals be increased. It sought an additional Rs 500 crore allocation for the Advocates Welfare Trust and annual financial support of Rs 10 crore to the Bar Council for lawyer welfare programmes.
Several Bar Council members attended the protest and expressed support for the demands. Former Telangana High Court Advocates Association secretary Advocate Khwaja Wazarat Ali and Advocate Barkat Ali Khan also addressed the gathering and urged the Telangana government, Bar Council and Advocates Welfare Trust to act without delay.
The dharna was led by AILU Telangana state president Koli Satyanarayana and general secretary K Pradha Saradhi. Members of the union’s state secretariat and student wing also took part in mobilising advocates, law students and young lawyers for the protest.

Presidents and secretaries of bar associations from different districts of Telangana, including representatives from the High Court Bar Association, joined the dharna in solidarity. Participants said their struggle would continue until the legitimate demands of the legal fraternity were accepted and implemented.
