Trinamool Congress Bank Accounts Worth Rs. 440 Crores Frozen

Kolkata/Hyderabad, June 21 (Maxim News): Debit operations in three Trinamool Congress bank accounts holding around Rs 440 crore have been frozen following complaints by rebel MLAs and a parallel dispute over control of the party’s finances in West Bengal.

The accounts, maintained with a private bank in Kolkata, were placed under a debit freeze after complaints sought a probe into the source and movement of funds. The development has intensified the internal conflict within the Trinamool Congress over organisational control and access to party assets.

According to reports, a group of rebel MLAs approached police seeking an investigation into alleged financial irregularities, including the source of deposits in the party accounts. The freeze means withdrawals and outward transactions from the accounts have been halted, though the exact scope of restrictions has not been officially detailed.

Aroop Biswas letter and rebel complaints deepen TMC crisis

The controversy comes days after former TMC treasurer Aroop Biswas wrote to the bank asking it to restrict operations in the party’s accounts, citing a dispute over authority and control within the organisation. In the letter, he reportedly asked the bank to maintain status quo and not permit debit transactions until the dispute was resolved by a competent authority.

Soon after, dissident MLAs led by Ritabrata Banerjee sought a police probe into the party’s funds, alleging possible irregularities and demanding scrutiny of the deposits in the accounts. Following these complaints, Bidhannagar police initiated action that resulted in the debit freeze on the three accounts.

The Trinamool Congress has strongly objected to the developments and described them as politically motivated. The party has also issued a show cause notice to Aroop Biswas over his communication to the bank, indicating that the dispute over the handling of party funds has now widened into a larger internal confrontation.

The account freeze has added a new flashpoint to the ongoing power struggle within the party after recent political setbacks in West Bengal. With rebel leaders pressing for a detailed investigation and the TMC leadership preparing a legal response, the dispute over financial control is expected to remain a major political issue in the state in the coming days.
