Hyderabad, June 27: Police arrested alleged fraudster Surya Bhai while he was reportedly attempting to leave Hyderabad for Shadnagar in connection with a cheating case involving promises of low priced gold.
Investigators alleged that Surya Bhai collected lakhs of rupees from people by claiming he could supply foreign gold at prices lower than the market rate.
According to police, victims from Himayatnagar and Niloufer reportedly paid around Rs 30 lakh after believing the offer.
Gold Fraud Case Led To Arrest During Escape Attempt
Police said the victims later approached Surya Bhai after the promised gold was not delivered and demanded repayment.
During the dispute, Surya Bhai allegedly handed over three iPhones and claimed they were worth Rs 10 lakh. Police said he also issued a cheque for Rs 20 lakh.
Later, Surya Bhai lodged a complaint against the victims and alleged that they threatened him and took away his phone.
After examining both versions, police said they found evidence pointing to alleged cheating in the name of supplying low priced gold.
A case was initially registered by Attapur police and later transferred for further investigation.
Police said Surya Bhai was detained near Shadnagar while allegedly attempting to leave the city to avoid arrest. He is currently being questioned.
