Lift Crash In Meerpet Apartment Leaves 8 Injured, One Critical

Hyderabad, June 28: At least eight people were injured after a lift crashed inside an apartment building in Meerpet on Saturday afternoon. One of the victims remains in critical condition.

The incident took place at an apartment complex in Hanumannagar under Meerpet police limits when the visitors were returning after inspecting a flat that had been put up for sale.

According to police, all eight people entered the lift from the fourth floor to reach the ground level. The elevator reportedly stopped abruptly before suddenly plunging to the ground floor.

Residents who heard the impact rushed to help and alerted emergency services. The injured were shifted to a private hospital in LB Nagar for treatment.

The injured were identified as Tirunagari Narasimha Swamy (62), Padmini (51), T. Venkateswarlu (75), T. Nirmala (69), P. Gopala Swamy (71), P. Renuka (65), T. Padma (68), and T. Shobha (64).

Doctors said one person was in critical condition while the remaining victims sustained multiple injuries and were receiving treatment.

Police reached the apartment complex and began an inquiry into the circumstances that led to the lift failure.

A case was registered under Section 125(A) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for causing grievous hurt due to negligence. Authorities are examining the lift’s maintenance records and technical condition as part of the investigation.
