Srinagar, June 30: Indian intelligence agencies have reportedly warned of a possible terror threat to the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, prompting the Union Government to place security agencies on high alert ahead of the annual pilgrimage beginning on July 3.
According to intelligence inputs, there are concerns that militant groups may attempt to target the pilgrimage route amid regional tensions. Security agencies are closely monitoring developments and have intensified precautionary measures across Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources indicated that instability in neighbouring regions and attempts by hostile elements to create unrest could lead to increased security risks in India. Intelligence agencies are reportedly examining possible links between cross-border networks and local militant elements operating in forested areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
In response, security arrangements for the Amarnath Yatra have been significantly strengthened.
Authorities have deployed additional police, paramilitary personnel and surveillance teams along the Yatra routes. Anti-terror monitoring systems have also been enhanced with the installation of advanced surveillance infrastructure, including artificial intelligence-enabled cameras and digital screening systems.
Officials stated that all necessary arrangements are being made to ensure the safety and smooth movement of pilgrims during the Yatra period.
Meanwhile, security forces continue search and monitoring operations in sensitive areas, including parts of Rajouri district, as part of preventive security measures.
Authorities have advised pilgrims to follow official instructions, remain updated through verified government channels and avoid circulating or relying on rumours.
The annual Amarnath Yatra is one of India’s major religious pilgrimages and draws lakhs of devotees each year under extensive security arrangements.
