Hyderabad, July 2: BRS Working President KTR on Wednesday challenged Telangana Minister Jupally Krishna Rao to a public debate on the state’s finances and governance, alleging that the Congress government was avoiding open discussions.
Speaking to reporters at Telangana Bhavan, KTR questioned why Jupally did not visit the BRS headquarters after accepting a debate on Telangana’s debt. He claimed the Congress lacked the courage to face public scrutiny.
KTR said the BRS was prepared to discuss the performance of both the previous BRS government and the present Congress administration. He also demanded adequate time in the Assembly to debate issues and said the party would present evidence to support its allegations against the government.
The BRS leader accused the Congress government of failing to fulfil its promise of creating 56,000 police jobs. He claimed the government had now reduced the figure to 5,000 recruitments.
KTR also said the BRS government had provided employment opportunities to local youth and constructed one lakh houses in Hyderabad. He challenged the Congress government to demonstrate similar achievements.
He further demanded that Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy explain the inclusion of one crore acres under the prohibited land list.
KTR criticised Minister Jupally over the functioning of the Excise Department and alleged administrative failures. Separately, BRS MLA T. Harish Rao alleged a Rs 2,000 crore scam in the Welfare Department and claimed that police prevented him from presenting evidence. He also criticised the arrest of Praveen Kumar, calling it illegal. The Congress government had not responded to the allegations at the time of publication.
