The minister said the state government had almost completed land acquisition for the ambitious housing project. He added that the remaining process would conclude within the next two to three days, allowing the government to move ahead with the tender process without delay.

The pattas were distributed in the presence of Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Minister Mohammed Azharuddin, Minister Adluri Laxman, MP Anil Kumar Yadav, Goshamahal MLA Raja Singh and other public representatives.

Pilot Housing Project Across 19 Assembly Constituencies

Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said the Congress government was committed to providing a permanent house to every poor family. He said the government would begin the programme as a pilot project in 19 Assembly constituencies within the CURE region. Initially, each constituency would receive between 500 and 1,000 Indiramma houses. Subsequently, the government would expand construction in the second and third phases.

He said the government had already sanctioned up to 5,500 Indiramma houses in every rural Assembly constituency. Likewise, it would now focus on providing quality housing for eligible families in urban areas.

The minister said urban land prices had reached between Rs 100 crore and Rs 200 crore per acre in several locations. However, the government had decided to utilise those lands for housing instead of commercial purposes. As a result, poor families would receive houses in the same localities where they currently live.

Ponguleti said the government had completed 125 double bedroom houses in Dhoolpet that remained unfinished during the previous administration. Moreover, officials had started identifying nearby land to construct additional houses for other eligible beneficiaries. He directed the district collector to speed up the land identification process.

The minister assured beneficiaries that no eligible family would be excluded from the housing programme. At the same time, he ruled out relocating poor families to distant areas outside the city. Instead, the government would provide houses close to their workplaces and livelihoods so that beneficiaries could continue their daily occupations without hardship.

Ponguleti also claimed that the Congress government would build more houses in two and a half years than the previous BRS government constructed during its ten-year tenure. He recalled his public challenge to BRS leaders on the issue and said none had responded.

The minister alleged that the previous government prioritised expensive projects while neglecting housing for the poor. In contrast, he said the Congress government was directing public resources towards welfare programmes. He added that the Indiramma Housing Scheme would help realise the government’s goal of a hut-free Telangana by ensuring every eligible poor family owns a permanent house. (Maxim News)
