Hyderabad, July 2: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Rain Alert in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh till July 8 following the likely formation of a low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal.
According to the IMD, the weather system is expected to form on July 3 near the Odisha and West Bengal coast. It is likely to move gradually towards Rajasthan while enhancing monsoon activity across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
The weather department said rainfall activity will increase from July 4, with heavy showers expected in several districts. Widespread rain is likely across both states from July 5, providing relief from the recent hot and humid conditions.
In Telangana, heavy rainfall is forecast in districts including Adilabad, Mancherial and Bhadradri Kothagudem. Hyderabad and nearby districts may also experience thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds.
The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has forecast cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms in Srikakulam, Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitharama Raju and the Polavaram region. Other districts may receive light rain at isolated places.
Authorities said rainfall is expected to become more widespread from July 4, with heavy showers likely in several parts of Andhra Pradesh.
Officials advised residents to avoid standing under trees or near electric poles during thunderstorms because of the risk of lightning. They also urged the public to monitor official weather updates and follow safety precautions as the low pressure system develops.
